The present study was developed with a sample of 100 families from the peripheral sectors of the La Esperanza district, such as Ramiro Prialé, Las Palmers, Alberto Fujimori and New Jerusalem with the objective of knowing the types of families and their relationship with Family dysfunction. It was investigated systematically, with techniques such as observation, focus group and FACES III. In terms of results we can specify: the prevalence of single-parent families (41.2%), followed by the nuclear type (29.7%), and in a smaller proportion the large (11.8%). In relation to functionality according to adaptability, 16% of extended families are flexible, and 13% of families of the same type are structured. In terms of cohesion, it was found that 22% of extended families are united; and a scant 1% of reconstituted families are agglutinated. By which we can infer that 38% of families are located in the extreme range of functionality, that is, they are properly dysfunctional. Then 37% of families present an acceptable level of functionality (balanced) .With which it is evident that the type of family (especially non-traditional as reconstituted and single-parent) have dysfunction at a lower level, than commonly believed.
