The work is framed within the intercultural approach, in addition, responds to a quality educational need existing in rural areas of our country, considering that at present the universities are distanced from the social demand in relation to Basic Education. In this sense, the objective of the research is to determine to what extent the application of the methodological proposal based on an intercultural approach develops academic competences in the rural area in the students of Initial Education. The research is of the applied type with preexperimental design with a single group of pre and posttest, the sample consisted of 20 students of initial education and the sampling was intentional, the scenarios were used as environments of the Faculty of Education, as well as the lnstitutions of rural areas of La Libertad. Regarding the results, it was possible for the students to develop significantly the academic competences in the rural area; since before applying the proposal 95% of students were in the Unsatisfactory level and after the proposal 70% were found in the level satisfactory.
