The hydrocarbon injection is an important stage in the combustion, where the atomization process is involved, which consists in disintegrating in small drops, the fuel, by an injector to add a larger transfer area. The droplet size generated by the injector should be less than 80 μm so that a good combustion can be ensured and avoid contaminants such as CO and NOx. In this research worked with ethanol, a low emission hydrocarbon, which has high viscosity that makes it difficult to reach a correct droplet diameter. This type of study needs to be theoretical and experimental, with simulation being a great tool to replace the second. We used the finite element method included in the Flow Simulation package of Solidworks Software, where a Y type injector sketched for evaluation. The dynamic simulation helped to measure the velocity field, at the exit of the air nozzle, a cavity that has a diameter of 0.2 mm, which helps to raise the kinetic energy of the fluid, obtaining the highest values of Mach number in this area. The results evaluated with the Wigg equation give an inverse proportional relation of the velocity to the droplet diameter.
