It is necessary to carry out comprehensive evaluation on forest management for water conservation forest function through quantification of hydrological process. To do a direct measurement in each forest area has many obstacles, therefore need to develop an approximation method. This study investigated ways to identify appropriate long term evapotranspiration factor (fep) based on their monthly and annually performances in the small forest watershed. Evapotranspiration factor (fep) is estimated by ratio of the actual evapotranspiration (et) over the potential evapotranspiration (ep). The et is describing the total loss of water where calculated from an indirect estimation using the water balance of a watershed. The ep values have been estimated by the Hamon equation at monthly and annually temporal scale. Performance analysis estimated values using the hydrological data and meteorological data for 24 years (1984-2007) were made. On the other hand, Normalized Difference of Vegetation Index (NDVI) data derived from remote sensing were used to assess the historic of leaf area change patterns. The result revealed a positive relationship between evapotranspiration factor and NDVI (fep = 1.3975NDVI + 0.4875, r 2 = 0.30). This study produces a useable monthly evapotranspiration factor for Hamon PET (Potential Evapotranspiration) during the growing season. Furthermore the simple linear regression model was developed to establish a relationship between NDVI and the evapotranspiration factor for forest catchment area.
