Pieter J Fourie is emeritus professor en navorsingsgenoot in die Departement Kommunikasiewetenskap aan die Universiteit van SuidAfrika, waarvan hy ook ’n vorige hoof was. Hy is die stigtingsredakteur (1985) van Communicatio: Suid-Afrikaanse Tydskrif vir Kommunikasieteorie en navorsing en die outeur van 64 navorsingsartikels in kommunikasieen mediastudie (oor mediasemiotiek, mediateorie, joernalistiek en die uitsaaiwese) asook sewe boeke en 26 boekhoofstukke hieroor. Hy is redakteur van die omvattende vierdelige mediastudiereeks, waarvan die laaste boek getitel is: Media Studies Volume 4: Social (New) Media and Mediated Communication Today (Juta 2017). Hy is ’n ontvanger van die Stalsprys van die SuidAfrikaanse Akademie vir Wetenskap en Kuns, ’n NRF-gegradeerde navorser, lewenslange genoot en vorige president van die Suid-Afrikaanse Kommunikasievereniging, en genoot van die Internasionale Kommunikatalogiese Instituut in die VSA. Hy is op die redaksies van verskeie toonaangewende tydskrifte in kommunikasiewetenskap en lewer steeds referate op internasionale kongresse oor sy huidige spesialiseringsgebied, naamlik mediatisering. Pieter J Fourie is Emeritus Professor and Research Fellow in the Department of Communication Science at the University of South Africa, of which he was also a previous head. He is the founding editor (1985) of Communicatio: South African Journal for Communication Theory and Research, the author of 64 research articles, seven books, 26 chapters in books in communication and media studies on media semiotics, media theory, journalism and broadcasting, and the editor of the comprehensive four-part media studies textbook series with the last book titled: Media Studies Volume 4: Social (New) Media and Mediated Communication Today (Juta 2017). He is a NRF-rated researcher, Lifelong Fellow of the South African Communication Association and Fellow of the International Communicology Institute, USA. He serves on the editorial boards of leading journals in communication science and still presents papers at international conferences on the topic of his present area of specialisation, namely mediatisation.
