The Fischer-Tropsch synthesis using a Fem(CO)n(m=1, 2, 3; n=5, 9, 12)-MOH(M=Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs)/HY zeolite system or a Fe3(CO)12/MZSM5 (M=K or Cs) system as a catalyst precursor is investigated. Both catalyst systems are active for production of light olefins. The catalytic activity increased in the order of Fe(CO)5<Fe2(CO)9<Fe3(CO)12. The effects of alkali metals on both catalytic activity and selectivity for olefins increase in the order of Li<Na<K<Rb<Cs for the Fe(CO)5 or Fe3(CO)12-MOH/HY zeolite system. The Fe3(CO)12-CsOH/HY zeolite system exhibits 34% of the effective conversion of carbon monoxide (P=14atm, 300°C, CO/H2=1.5, Fe 10wt%, SV=2, 000h-1), 51% and 88% of the selectivity for ethylene in C2 products and that for propylene in C3 products, respectively, and the catalytic activity is maintained for 62h without changing product distribution.
