In a previous paper1) I have presented the results of experiments dealing with the effect of starvation on the calcium and magnesium con tent of blood and tissues. In order to ascertain whether or not starvation alters the content of chlorine, sulphur or phosphorus in the blood and tissues, another series of experiments was undertaken , results of which will be reported below. The general plan of investigation were much the same as used in the previous paper. Namely, the blood of starving rabbits was drawn at definite intervals and the amount of the substances in question was determined; just previous to death from starvation the rabbit was bled from carotid artery, the rest of blood washed out with a sugar solution, the organs were taken out and analyzed ; the data thus obtained were then compared with those of the normal animal . But, as an essential part of sulphur and phosphorus present in the ash of animal tissues is derived from organic compounds, I have carried out in a group of experi ments determinations also in the acid extracts of tissues.
