Este trabalho objetivou estudar a percepção de cuidadores familiares de pacientes com seqüela de Acidente Vascular Encefálico sobre as repercussões físicas e psicossociais desta atividade. Trata-se de um estudo qualitativo com dez cuidadores familiares de pacientes adultos com seqüela de AVE em tratamento fisioterapêutico em um centro de Reabilitação em Salvador, Bahia. Para a coleta de dados, utilizou-se um roteiro de entrevista semi-estruturado, no período de junho a julho de 2006. As entrevistas foram gravadas, posteriormente transcritas e analisadas. Para a análise do conteúdo dos discursos, definiram-se as seguintes categorias: "O que sentem?", com as subcategorias sobrecarga emocional e sentimentos positivos; "Repercussões físicas"; "Alterações financeiras"; "Vida social e Relações familiares". Entre os entrevistados predominaram as mulheres, pessoas casadas, com média de idade de 54 anos. Houve relatos de isolamento social e de sentimentos negativos, como o nervosismo e a pena, mas também sentimentos positivos de crescimento pessoal e aproximação do familiar. Entre as alterações físicas, destacaram-se as dores na coluna e braços e distúrbios no sono. A situação financeira das famílias foi, na sua maioria, modificada pela redução da renda familiar e aumento das despesas, e as relações familiares, influenciadas pelo afastamento dos membros e aumento dos conflitos. Diante de todas as alterações impostas à vida destas pessoas e a sobrecarga física e emocional que podem ocasionar, fica clara a necessidade de intervenções direcionadas aos cuidadores familiares. This paper aimed to investigate the perception of family caregivers of patients with cerebrovascular accident (CVA) about physical and psycho-social repercussions of this activity. It is a qualitative study with ten family caregivers of adult patients with CVA undergoing physical therapy at Instituto Bahiano de Reabilitação, Salvador, Brazil. The data collect used a semi-structured questionnaire applied in June and July 2006. Interviews were recorded and then transcript and analyzed. Four categories were defined for content analysis of speeches: "What do they feel?", with sub-categories emotional burden and positive feelings; "Repercussion on physical health"; "Financial changes"; "Social life and Familiar relationships". Most caregivers of this study were female, married, with average age of 54 years. There were reports of social isolation and negative feelings, like nervousness and pity, but also positive feelings, as personal development and approximation to the relative. Among the physical changes, pain on back and arms and sleep alterations were highlighted. The financial situation of the families was, in its majority, modified by shortening of the familiar income and increased expenses, and familiar relations were influenced by the removal of the members and increased conflicts. Considering all these implications in the lives of these people and the physical and emotional burden that it can cause, there is a clear necessity of interventions directed to family caregivers

Ser cuidador familiar: um estudo sobre as conseqüências de assumir este papel
