Desde a fundação, em 1959, do Instituto Cubano da Arte e Indústria Cinematográficas (Icaic), apareceu um grupo de filmes dedicados a incentivar a polêmica social e a fustigar os erros do socialismo na Ilha. Este texto se propõe a analisar alguns dos principais vetores de pensamento que gravitaram sobre alguns desses filmes (documentários e de ficção) capazes de levantar a polêmica, sobretudo, em seu caráter de espelhos fiéis da realidade. Também se tenta demonstrar o vertical compromisso com a realidade e seus dilemas quotidianos que tem caracterizado o melhor cinema cubano - quer dizer, o cinema cubano mais polêmico -, amparado numa política institucional decidida a demonstrar, coerentemente, a relevância artística e social de um cinema anticonformista que revele e denuncie um cinema que critique e questione, profundamente ligado ao compromisso, ao esforço coletivo para atingir uma sociedade mais justa, igualitária e humanista. Desde PM até Fresa y chocolate [Morango e chocolate], passando por Un día de noviembre e Papeles secundarios, o texto se propõe a interpretar as nuanças de cada polêmica, enquanto descreve os aportes de tais filmes à fibra medular da cultura cubana. Desde la fundación, en 1959, del Instituto Cubano del Arte e Industria Cinematográficos (Icaic) han aparecido un grupo de filmes dedicados a incentivar la polémica social y a fustigar los errores del socialismo en la Isla. Este texto se propone analizar algunos de los vectores principales de pensamiento que gravitaron sobre algunos de los filmes (documentales y de ficción) capaces de levantar la polémica, sobre todo en cuanto a su carácter de espejos fieles de la realidad. También se intenta demostrar el vertical compromiso con la realidad y sus dilemas cotidianos que ha caracterizado al mejor cine cubano - es decir, al cine cubano más polémico - amparado en una política institucional decidida a demostrar, coherentemente, la relevancia artística y social de un cine anticonformista que devele y denuncie, un cine que critique y cuestione, profundamente ligado al compromiso, al esfuerzo colectivo por alcanzar una sociedad más justa, igualitaria y humanista. Desde PM hasta Fresa y chocolate, pasando por Un día de noviembre o Papeles secundarios, el texto se propone interpretar los matices de cada polémica, mientras describe los aportes de tales filmes a la fibra medular de la cultura cubana. Since the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (Icaic) was founded in 1959, a series of films have been made that highlighted social polemics and lashed out against the errors of socialism in Cuba. This essay intends to analyze the main vectors of thought that underlay some of these controversial films (both documentaries and fiction), in particular their character of being faithful mirrors of reality. It also attempts to show the vertical commitment to reality and its everyday dilemmas that characterize the best Cuban films - that is to say, the most controversial Cuban films -, which are supported by institutional policies that consistently nurture the artistic and social relevance of a non-conformist cinema that criticizes, questions and is intimately committed to the collective quest for a more just, egalitarian and humanistic society. From PM to Fresa y chocolate, Un día de noviembre and Papeles secundarios, the essay strives to interpret the nuances of each controversy, while describing the contributions of such films to the medullar energy of the Cuban culture
