In this interview, Rancière sets The ignorant schoolmaster both in his intellectual course and the political, social and academic context of France in the 80s. Its content reaffirms the main theses in the book: What schoolmasters are ignorant of is inequality. The principle of equality is an axiom to be confirmed. Emancipation supposes an equal, universal functioning of intelligence.
