A Flemingia macrophylla (Willd.) Alston tem sido introduzida em diferentes sistemas de produção em razão de sua versatilidade de cultivo. Objetivou-se com este trabalho avaliar a estrutura e características físicas da semente e a morfologia de plântulas de Flemingia macrophylla (Willd.) Alston. Amostras de três lotes de sementes colhidos em 2007, 2008 e 2009 foram avaliadas em relação ao tamanho, grau de umidade, massa de mil sementes, massa do hectolitro e número de sementes por grama. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi inteiramente casualizado, com três lotes e oito repetições. Em outro ensaio, as sementes foram seccionadas para a observação e descrição da anatomia do tegumento, tecido de reserva e do embrião. As estruturas de plântulas foram avaliadas e registradas durante o seu desenvolvimento. As sementes de flemingia são globulares e esféricas, o tegumento apresenta coloração preta e marron. O grau de umidade das sementes variou entre 9,5 e 12,1%, a massa de mil sementes variou de 18,11 a 19,28 g, o peso hectolitro de 72,23 a 74,39 kg e o número de sementes por grama de 52 a 55. A estrutura do tegumento é formada por camada de células paliçádicas, característica da família Fabaceae. A germinação é do tipo hipógea. Flemingia macrophylla (Willd.) Alston has been introduced into different production systems due to its easy cultivation. The objective of this study was to evaluate the structure and physical characteristics of the seed and also seedling morphology. Three seed samples collected in 2007, 2008 and 2009 were used to evaluate the size, moisture content, thousand seed weight, and number of seeds per gram. The experimental design was completely randomized with eight replications. In another trial, seeds were sectioned and the morphologies of the seed coat and embryo tissues were studied. Seedling structure was evaluated by sowing seeds and assessing seedling development daily. The seed moisture content ranged from 9.46 to 12.10%, the weight of 1,000 seeds varied from 18.11 to 19.28 g, the hectoliter weight ranged from 72.23 to 74.39 kg and the number of seeds g-1 from 52 to 55. The seed coat consists of a layer of palisade cells, with an external glossy color of black or brown spots. The seeds have two cotyledons with an embryonic axis and no endosperm and germination is hypogeal
