As sementes de milho-doce, comparadas às do milho comum possuem, em geral, pericarpo mais fino, o que as tornam mais suscetíveis às danificações mecânicas. Neste trabalho, foi estudado o processo de maturação de sementes de milhodoce com objetivo de se determinar o ponto ideal de colheita visando à qualidade das sementes e também ao seu comportamento quando a colheita é retardada. A semeadura ocorreu em dezembro e as colheitas foram realizadas em fevereiro e março. A primeira colheita foi realizada em torno de 26 dias após a floração (DAF), quando aproximadamente 50% das plantas estavam com florescimento feminino. As demais colheitas foram realizadas em intervalos de sete dias, até 96 DAF. Após a colheita, foi feita a debulha manual das sementes e verificado o seu teor de água, a massa seca e a presença da camada negra. Após a última colheita, a qualidade fisiológica das sementes foi determinada por meio dos testes de germinação, frio modificado, envelhecimento acelerado e condutividade elétrica. A colheita de sementes de milhodoce, cultivar Doce Cristal, deve ser realizada entre o 47º e o 75º DAF, para que se obtenham sementes de elevada qualidade fisiológica. A camada negra é uma característica visual eficiente para a identificação da maturidade fisiológica. Sweet corn seeds, compared to those of the common corn, have, in general, a thinner pericarp, which makes them more susceptible to mechanical damages. A study concerning the maturation process of sweet corn seeds was carried out to determine the ideal harvesting point in order to obtain high quality seed, as well as to evaluate the performance of the seeds when harvesting is delayed. Sowing was accomplished on December and harvests carried out on February and March. The first harvesting was performed 26 days after flowering (DAF), when approximately 50% of the plants showed female flowering. The other harvests were accomplished at 7-day intervals, until 96 DAF. After harvest, the seeds were hand threshed, moisture content and dry matter were determined, and a visual evaluation for the presence of the black layer was made. After the last harvest, physiological quality of the seeds was determined by germination, modified cold, accelerated aging and electrical conductivity tests. The harvesting of the Doce Cristal sweet corn cultivar should be accomplished from the 47th to the 75th DAF in order to obtain seeds of high physiological quality. The black layer is an efficient visual characteristic for identification of their physiological maturity
