Dne of the strongest associations with the development of type-2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases is excessive weight gain. On 2016, the World Health Drganization (World Health Drganization, 2010a) estimated that more than 1.9 billion adults (18 years and older) were overweight, and, of these, over 650 million were obese. This fact indicates the urgent need to develop management strategies for the prevention of such noncommunicable diseases, including the decrease of their risk factors. On this regard, the adoption of two main behavioural modifications have been suggested: reduction of the consumption of caloric foods and the encouragement of physical exercise practice (Gregg et al., 2012; Knowler et al., 2002). Related to calorie reduction, strategies such as the replacement of sugar with lowand noCalorie sweeteners (LNCS) in sugar-sweetened foods and beverages have been adopted by the food industry (European Food Safety Authority, 2019).
