Pollution is one of the main concerns for humanity, having a variety of causes (e.g., Ferraz et al. 2005, Lacerda et al. 2012). Hardly disputable, urbanization can be regarded as the leading factor in introducing pollutants to the environment, and due to the actual population growth, will continue to be so in the foreseeable future.
