[Purpose] The usefulness of a dissolution approach for belief conflict (DAB) for a COPD patient receiving a respiratory rehabilitation program is reported. [Subjects] The subject was a 79-year-old man diagnosed with disuse syndrome after acute exacerbation of COPD. [Methods] Although the patient’s body function had improved, his level of physical activity did not increase with respiratory rehabilitation. Because the improvement in the extent of body activities was forced, a belief conflict arose. Hence, DAB was introduced into the respiratory rehabilitation program. [Results] From the day after DAB introduction, the patient personally planned his time for ambulation. This practice continued until his discharge. [Conclusion] Introduction of DAB to the respiratory rehabilitation program may be useful for patients.
