理学療法士による要介護高齢者の評価結果を分析した結果「寝がえり」「起き上がり」「座位保時」「立ち上がり」「歩行」を一連の基本動作とした場合基本動作の次元と要介護度および認知症とは関係性がありこれらは要介護高齢者の理学療法のポイントをより明確にするものであった。また基本動作の自立に関しては目的とする動作の下位に位置する動作の可否が重要でありとりわけ「寝返りが可能な者」は「不可能な者」に比べて「起き上がり」の自立可能性が極めて高かったことは「寝返り」動作の重要性を示すものであった。これらは介護保険領域の理学療法提供にあたって考慮すべき視点と思われた。
