安静時および運動時に胸郭を弾性圧迫力(0mmHg・10mmHg・20mmHg)で固定した際の呼吸応答・胸郭運動について調べた。対象は34歳の健康な男性。運動負荷は自転車エルゴメータによる多段階負荷とし呼気ガス分析器により呼吸応答を求め磁気式動作解析システムを用いて上部胸郭は前後間距離を下部胸郭は左右間距離を測定した。結果は1)呼吸応答についてみると圧迫力の増加にともない肺活量・1秒量ともに減少した。また1回換気量は減少するが呼吸数は増加しその結果分時換気量も増加した。2)胸郭運動についてみると前後間では125Wでの20mmHgと10mmHgで左右問では125W・20mmHgと100W・20mmHgで比較的大きくなった。3)胸郭運動とエネルギー消費に相関はなくマンシェットによる弾性収縮力が胸郭運動を補助していることが示唆された。
