最大歩行速度を測定するのに最も速い速度に至るために必要な歩行路の距離を明らかにすることが本研究の目的である。健常成人18名を対象に10m30m60m120m210mの5通りの異なった歩行距離を歩行させた。それぞれの歩行における所要時間歩数心拍数を測定した。これらの測定値はいずれも歩行速度と2次曲線的関係にあった。そしてこの2次多項式回帰曲線から最も最大となる歩行速度を求めたところ歩行距離は108m測定時間が33秒歩数は113歩心拍増加数は68拍毎分となるような歩行条件が望ましいことが明らかとなった。
