After incubation with the substrates for 12 hr, the separated acidic metabolites were methylated with diazomethane and then analyzed by TLC and GLC. a-Ionylideneacetic acid was converted into 4'-oxo-aionylideneacetic acid in all the plants examined. (+)-(2Z,4E)-1'-Hydroxy-a-ionylideneacetic acid was metabolized to (2Z,4E)-dehydro-f3-ionylideneacetic acid and (+)-abscisic acid in tomato plants.
