As consumer values and lifestyles have been changing with the economic and industrial development, there has also been considerable academic development in the cosmetics industry, and its roles and functions have diversified. This study aimed to investigate the current status of and future research directions in the cosmetics industry through bibliometric analysis and to develop the theoretical groundwork and basic data for the cosmetics industry. This study found the following. As the negative effects of UV rays on the skin due to the destruction of the ozone layer have emerged as a hot issue around the globe, there has been a boom in brand-new cosmetics that can prevent skin damage by environmental pollution. As our society ages, people’s views on cosmetics has changed. At the same time, the demand and market potential for functional cosmetics such as anti-aging products have dramatically increased. With the emergence of terms like ‘environment’ and ‘emotional design’, the emotional aspects and quality of life would a greater impact on the production of cosmetics than practical aspects, which were the mainstream factors before the 1990s. As the managementrelated vocabulary has appeared since 2010, there have also been many studies on brand image and repurchase.
