1 RESUMO Objetivou-se com o presente estudo calibrar e validar o numero de curva (CN) para diferentes manejos da vegetacao caatinga no semiarido brasileiro. O trabalho foi desenvolvido em tres microbacias experimentais localizadas na regiao Centro Sul do Ceara, Brasil. Os dados de precipitacao e escoamento foram medidos no periodo de 2008 a 2011 por uma estacao hidrometeorologica localizada no exutorio das microbacias. Na primeira microbacia (B1) a cobertura vegetal foi mantida inalterada enquanto que na segunda (B2) foi aplicado o manejo de raleamento para producao de pastagem e a terceira (B3) aplicou-se o manejo de corte/queima e plantacao da graminea ( Andropogon gayanus , Kunt) para producao de pasto. A calibracao do CN foi realizada empregando-se o criterio do maximo coeficiente de Nash e Sutcliffe. Os resultados mostraram que o manejo da vegetacao influencia na producao de escoamento nas microbacias refletindo nos valores de CN. Os CN gerados podem ser usados para estimativa do escoamento superficial em condicoes similares de manejo da caatinga no semiarido brasileiro e encontraram-se proximos a valores tabelados de manejos similares obtidos para condicoes de uso e cobertura do solo de outros paises. Tanto na calibracao como validacao os modelos apresentaram bons coeficientes de Nash e Sutcliffe superiores a 0,6, bem como, indices de confianca de bom a muito bom. OPTIMIZATION OF THE CUVER NUMBER (CN-SCS) FOR DIFFERENT MANAJEGEMENT IN A SEMARID REGION, CEARA, BRASIL 2 ABSTRACT This study was carried out to calibrate and validate the Runoff Curve Number method (CN) for different management of Caatinga vegetation in the brasilian semiarid. The study was conducted in three small experimental watersheds in the southern central region of Ceara State, Brazil . Rainfall and streamflow records were collected at a station locates at the watershed outlet from 2009 to 2011. The first small watershed (B1), is representative of caatinga, a type of scrubby forest; the second one (B2) was a thinning applied to pasture production and the third one (B3) was managed with cutting/burning and planting grass ( Andropogon gayanus , Kunt) to forage productivity. The CN calibration was done using the Nash and Sutcliffe coefficient. Results showed that the management of vegetation influences the runoff in watersheds reflecting the CN. The CN generated can be used for the estimation of the surface runoff in management conditions similar to those of the caatinga in the brazillian semi-arid region. The validations values were near the recorded values of similar managements, obtained in other countries . Both, the calibration and validation runoff model showed good Nash and Sutcliffe coefficients over 0,6. Keywords : Runoff; hydrologic modeling; small watershed.
