Twin embolization syndrome (TES) is a rare complication of monozygotic monochorionic twining following in utero demise of the co-twin and is related to the vascular connections in monochorionic placentas. Passage of thromboplastic materials, thrombus, debris and toxins from the dying twin’s circulation into the circulation of the surviving fetus results in ischemic structural defects of various systemic organs including the central nervous system (CNS).
