On 8 December 2016, the Holy Father, Pope Francis, accepted the resignation of Cardinal Stanisław Dziwisz from the ministry of the Metropolitan Archbishop of Krakow and appointed Archbishop Marek Jedraszewski, the previous Metro politan Archbishop of Łódź, as the new Krakow Metropolitan Archbishop.
