Elméleti háttér: A daganatos betegséggel küzdők és egészségesek életcéljait vizsgáló kutatások, melyek az Életcél Kérdőívet használták mérőeszközként, nem mutattak szignifikáns pontszámbeli különbséget a két csoport között. Ez érdekes eredmény, hiszen más betegségcsoportoknál kimutatható különbség az egészségesek és a betegek között. Cél: Kutatásunk célja a daganatos betegek és egészségesek jellemzőinek és attitűdjeinek feltárása volt az életcéllal és élet értelmével kapcsolatban, illetve, hogy tapasztalható-e különbség a két csoport válaszai között. Távlati célunk, hogy eredményeinkkel hozzájáruljunk a daganatos betegségek prevenciójához és a gyógyítás hatékonyabbá tételéhez. Módszerek: Kutatásunk során strukturált interjút használtunk mérőeszközként (Komplex Strukturált Interjú Emlődaganatos Betegek Részére) 28 emlődaganatos és 28 egészséges kontrollszemély bevonásával. Az interjúk során adott válaszokat a „lehorgonyzott-elmélet” (grounded theory) tartalomelemzési módszer alapján kidolgozott kategóriarendszer mentén elemeztük. Eredmények: (1) Az emlődaganatos betegek és egészségesek életcéllal és élet értelmével kapcsolatos jellemzőinek statisztikai módszerekkel történő összehasonlítása nem mutatott szignifikáns eltérést a két csoport között. (2) Eredményeinket az Aspirációs Index magyar mintán kapott eredményeivel összevetve azt tapasztaltuk, hogy vizsgálati személyeink szinte egyáltalán nem említik az extrinzik életcélokat (pl. gazdagság, jó megjelenés, hírnév), míg az intrinzik életcélok közel 80%-át teszik ki a válaszoknak mind az egészséges, mind pedig a betegcsoportban. A válaszok ilyen eloszlása jelentősen különbözött az önkitöltős, Likert-skálájú kérdőív eredményeitől. Következtetések: (1) Mivel más betegségek esetén kimutatható eltérés az egészségesek és betegek között az életcél és élet értelme tekintetében, elképzelhető, hogy a daganatos betegek egyfajta specifikus megküzdési módként használják az életcéllal és élet értelmével kapcsolatos attitűdjeiket. (2) A hasonló jellemzőket eltérő módszerekkel feltáró kutatások jelentős eltéréseket mutathatnak.			 | 				Background: Studies examining purpose in life among breast cancer patients and healthy women (using the Purpose in Life Test) did not find significant difference between these two groups. The lack of significant difference becomes interesting in the light of the fact that such significant difference tends to appear in the case of other diseases. Aim: The aim of our study was to explore and compare the attributions and characteristics of healthy women and breast cancer patients regarding the purpose in life and meaning of life. Our further aim with the results of our study is to contribute to the prevention and healing of cancer disease. Methods: In our study, 28 Hungarian breast cancer patients and 28 Hungarian healthy women were interviewed by the newly developed structured interview (Complex Structured Interview for Breast Cancer Patients). The answers were analyzed using qualitative content analysis. The category system of the qualitative content analysis was developed based on the method of Grounded Theory. Results: (1) This article presents the attitudes and characteristics of breast cancer patients and healthy women regarding purpose in life and meaning of life. The statistical analysis that was based on the findings of the qualitative content analysis did not show significant differences between the two groups. (2) Our results were compared to the results of other Hungarian studies using the Aspiration Index as a measure instrument. Contrary to previous investigations, gained by measure instruments using the Aspiration Index with a Likert-type scale, where both extrinsic and intrinsic aspirations were mentioned to a greater extent; in the present study, extrinsic aspirations (e.g., wealth, fame, image) remained almost unmentioned, while nearly 80% of the answers indicated intrinsic aspirations both among breast cancer patients and healthy women. Conclusions: (1) Breast cancer patients’ attitudes towards purpose in life does not differ from healthy controls’ attitudes, although previous findings show significant differences in the case of other diseases. One possible explanation of this result might be that breast cancer patients use attributions to purpose and meaning of life as a specific coping mechanism. (2) Different methods examining the same question can result in significantly different outcomes
