Bevezetés: Az orvostanhallgatók jóllétének vizsgálata nagy hangsúlyt kap napjaink egészségtudományának szakirodalmában. A hallgatói kiégés és a tanulmányok iránt mutatott elkötelezettség rizikó- és protektív tényezőinek feltárása, valamint egyetemi teljesítményt befolyásoló értékük kiemelkedő. Célkitűzés: Jelen kutatás célja feltérképezni az orvostanhallgatók kiégésének szintjét, a tanulmányok iránti elköteleződésük mértékét, és megvizsgálni a kiégés, az elkötelezettség és az iskolai teljesítmény között lévő kapcsolatot. Módszerek: Önkéntes, anonim kérdőíves kutatásunkat 2–4. évfolyamos orvostanhallgatók körében végeztük két magyarországi orvosi egyetemen, 2009-ben (N = 230; 59,1% nő; átlagéletkor = 22,3±2,1 év). A kiégés mérésére a Maslach Kiégés Teszt hallgatói változatát (MBI-SS) használtuk, a tanulmányok iránti elköteleződést pedig az Utrechti Munka Iránti Elkötelezettség Skála (UWES-S) hallgatói változatával mértük. Eredmények: A kimerülés magas szintet mutatott (M = 15,8±5,9), a hallgatók 19,7%-a a magas kockázatú csoportba tartozott. A cinizmus nem mutatott magas szintet (M = 3,6±4,1), csupán a hallgatók 1,8%-a veszélyeztetett ebből az aspektusból. A személyes hatékonyságérzetre vonatkozóan (M = 23,5±6,0) mérsékelt a veszély, 4,7%-uk érez jelentős hatékonyságcsökkenést. A tanulmányok iránti elköteleződés igen pozitív képet mutat: az odaadás jellemző a hallgatókra (M = 12,49±3,3), hasonlóan az elmerüléshez (M = 10,57±3,4). A Lelkesedés-alskála kevésbé mutatott magas szintet (M = 9,2±3,3). Az elköteleződés skálái negatívan korreláltak a kiégés skáláival, pozitívan az iskolai teljesítménnyel. A kiégés iskolai teljesítményt bejósló ereje nagyobb, mint az elkötelezettségé. Következtetések: Bár az elköteleződés szintje magasnak bizonyult a hallgatók körében, emellett fontos felismerni a kiégés jeleit, és különösen az érzelmi kimerülést mérsékelni. Eredményeink alátámasztják azt az igényt, hogy az orvostanhallgatók mentálhigiénéjével már az egyetemi évek alatt foglalkozni kell.\ud			 | \ud				Background: Medical students’ well-being is a highly investigated topic in the contemporary literature in health sciences. Revealing the risk and protective effects, the level of student burnout and study engagement and to ascertain the relationship between burnout, engagement and academic performance is of great importance. Objectives: The present paper aims to explore the level of burnout and engagement of medical students in Hungary, to reveal the intercorrelations between the two variables and academic performance. Methods: A voluntary and anonym questionnaire survey was conducted in two different medical universities (N = 230, 59.1% females, mean age = 22.3, SD = 2.1 yrs), among 2–4<sup>th</sup> grade medical students in 2009. The Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI-SS) Student Version was used to detect the level of burnout. Further, commitment was measured by the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale, Student Version (UWES-S). Results: Exhaustion (M = 15.8, SD = 5.9) showed high rate, 19.7% of the total sample belong to the high risk group regarding burnout. Cynicism (M = 3.6, SD = 4.1) showed very low levels, only 1.8% reported high rate. Moderate risk appeared in Professional Efficacy (M = 23.5, SD = 6.0), 4.7% reflected low level. Engagement scales showed positive picture, Dedication (M = 12.5, SD = 3.3) is fairly high, such as Absorption (M = 10.6, SD = 3.4); Vigor is less dominant (M = 9.2, SD = 3.3). Strong intercorrelations were detected among engagement scales. The burnout and engagement subscales were negatively correlated, while engagement and academic performance were positively, respectively. Our results of regression analyses illustrate that student burnout became a more important factor in explaining academic performance than study engagement. Conclusion: However, the two investigated phenomena are strongly associated; focus should be given on burnout, particularly mitigating exhaustion of students. The findings underline the importance of preventive programs for medical students
