The aim of the present paper is to reveal theoretical relations between sustainability and climate adaptation, to define main connecting points, moreover, to elaborate a framework which can be applied to clearly specify the role and the importance of the predominantly similarly interpreted concepts. Nowadays, increasing number of articles state that changing climatic con1350 TEmaTIKUS öSSZEÁllíTÁS • KörNyEZETI KIhíVÁSoK – KlímaPolITIKa – INTEllIGENS VÁlaSZoK Magyar Tudomány 179(2018)9 ditions and negative impacts of climate change can be considered as the main causes of the current complex socio-economic challenges and problems. Based on our previous researches we assume that oversimplification of fundamentally complex sustainability challenges basically hinder the opportunities to develop effective actions and to shift existing development paradigms. Martin Kowarsch and his colleagues in Nature Climate Change claimed that there is a growing interest and vivid activity in the field of science regarding climate change, as there are cca. 212.000 articles published in highly regarded journals which have strong focus on our changing climate. Actuality and relevance of this topic is without question, however numerous theoretical relations shall be defined and specified which have critical features in developing practice-oriented actions in the future. Based on our above mentioned assumptions, present paper first includes an introduction of sustainability issues on local scale, then climate adaptation will be in the focus, finally parallel interpretation of sustainability and climate adaptation will be taken into consideration.
