El articulo tuvo como objetivo caracterizar las aptitudes sobresalientes en alumnos de tercero a quinto grado de primaria con relacion a la edad, sexo y variables asociadas. Se trabajo en tres escuelas publicas del Distrito Federal, Mexico. Se utilizo un muestreo no probabilistico, intencional, participaron 670 ninos (M edad = 9.18, DE = .997), 356 mujeres y 314 hombres. Tambien, colaboraron 24 docentes, 21 mujeres y 3 hombres (M edad = 43 anos). Se aplicaron el Test de Matrices Progresivas Raven, Prueba de Pensamiento Creativo de Torrance, Escala de Compromiso con la Tarea, Prueba de Autoconcepto Academico y Lista de Nominacion. Se identificaron 34 ninos con perfil sobresaliente, quienes obtuvieron puntuaciones por encima del percentil 75 en por lo menos tres de las cinco pruebas, los cuales se distribuyeron en tres grupos de acuerdo con la cantidad de variables con estimaciones superiores. La U de Mann Whitney mostro que no habia diferencia entre las variables con respecto al sexo, se observo que los ninos de mayor edad eran mas creativos. La prueba Kruskal-Wallis reporto diferencias significativas entre los tres grupos en la creatividad, compromiso con la tarea, autoconcepto academico y en la nominacion del maestro. La correlacion de Spearman mostro asociaciones positivas y significativas, entre la edad y la creatividad; y el compromiso con la tarea con el autoconcepto academico. Se concluye que los alumnos sobresalientes forman parte de un grupo heterogeneo, por lo que es necesario considerar diferentes variables para evaluarlos y determinar sus necesidades educativas. The purpose of the study was to determine the characteristics of the outstanding skills students in third through fifth grade in relation to age, sex and associated variables. The research was performed in three public schools in Mexico City, Mexico. We used an intentional non-probability sample, the trial included 670 children (Medad = 9.18, DE = .997), 356 women and 314 men; 24 teachers, 21 women and 3 men (Medad = 43 years). We applied the Raven Progressive Matrices Test, Torrance Test of Creative Thinking, Task Commitment Scale, Academic Self-concept Test and Nomination List. 34 children were identified with outstanding profile, because they obtained scores above the 75th percentile in at least three of the five tests, which were divided into three groups according to the number of variables with higher estimates. The Mann Whitney U test showed no differences between variables with respect to sex, we observed older children were more creative. The Kruskal -Wallis test reported significant differences amongst the three groups in creativity, task commitment, academic self-concept and teacher nomination. The Spearman correlation showed significant positive associations between age and creativity; and task commitment to academic self-concept. We conclude outstanding students are part of heterogeneous group, so it is necessary to evaluate them with different variables to determine their educational needs.
