RESUMO – O presente trabalho objetiva conhecer de que forma o tema da participacao perpassa as bases teorico-politicas do Servico Social. Este tema ganha relevância na atualidade uma vez que o termo participacao esta sendo usado de forma esvaziada de sentido politico. No Servico Social, por sua vez, o seu uso parece banalizado. A partir do estudo da literatura e de legislacoes da profissao, identificamos as bases politicas, teoricas e institucionais que, ao longo da trajetoria profissional, possibilitaram a organizacao da categoria e a insercao nos espacos de participacao das politicas e direitos sociais. ABSTRACT – This paper aims to understand how the participation theme permeates the theoretical and political foundations of Social Services. This issue becomes relevant in a context in which the term participation is being used deprived of its political meaning, and its usage in Social Services seems to have been trivialized. Through the study of the literature and laws on the profession of social worker, we identified the political, theoretical and institutional bases, which, along the trajectory of this profession, have allowed the political organization of the category and the inclusion in the participation of political and social rights.
