The article analyzes Of Love and Other Demons (1994) by Gabriel Garcia Marquez using the Ifa oracle as the main mythological, literary, and philosophical source. According to our reading, the Ifa oracle, as a system of meaning, is much more relevant for the analysis of Caribbean works than European approaches. The article carries out a comparison between Sierva Maria de Todos los Angeles and the Yoruba goddess Oshun, the Orisha of love, syncretized with the Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre. The analysis of this Afro- Caribbean philosophical archetype takes into account the aesthetic and conceptual components of the heroine/goddess Sierva/Oshun in the book and its representation of the archetypal drama.
