英国に形質人類学をメインテーマに掲げる学会は2つある。一つはSociety for the Study of Human BiologySSHBで生理人類学の色合いが強い学会である。もう一つはBritish Association for Biological Anthropology & OsteoarchaeologyBABAOで1998年9月に設立された新しい学会である。この学会は同年にUniversity of Bournemouthで開催されたシンポジウム“Human Osteology: A British Perspective”が契機となって発足した。250人規模のこぢんまりとした学会ながら他の団体とともにいろいろな事業に参画し活発に活動している。学会員は学部学生を含めた学生会員が三割海外会員が一割を占め研究者だけでなく芸術家司書出版者文筆家葬儀屋警察官など多彩な顔ぶれで裾野の広い学会である。学術大会は年1回のペースで開催され学術雑誌は刊行していないがAnnual Reviewという形で学会の動向やショートレポートなどを発行している。
