To investigate the effects of postpartum IUCD insertions on lactational amenorrhea and lactation 185 postpartum women were fitted with Lippes loops. 106 were used as a control group. The duration of lactation in the study group averaged 10.86 months. The difference in the duration of lactation and lactational amenorrhea between the 2 groups was not statistically significant. It is concluded that postpartum IUD insertions did not affect the duration of lactation or lactational amenorrhea.
