Abrasion process that occurs at the coastal areas can be prevented by minimizing the sea wave using mangrove vegetation.The ability of mangrove vegetation in minimizing the wave can be determined bystudying the sea wave characteristic approaching to the coastal line. The observation starts by finding the location of Rhizophora sp class and Avicennia sp class which have flat coastal areas with high tide fluctuation.The canal with size of 30 x 6,5 x 1 meter were made on the area.The diameter and length of tree roots as well assubmerged trunk were measured to define the porosity. The height and period of both incoming wave and transmited wave were recorded by SBE (Sea Bird Electronic) in a particular distance and porosity. The result of observation showed that on porosity of 0.9828 the ability in minimizing sea wave value of rhizopora sp class is 57.73 %, while the avicennia sp class with porosity of 0.9941 is 39.60 %.
