This artic le deals w ith the problem of n arra tion In F aulkner's novel A s l Lay Dying, and the w ay It overcomes lim itations from point of view imposed by the one te x t /o n e n a rra to r restriction . T he 'in terpretation ol the n a rra tiv e theory (Kurodaj has been observed, and i t has been pointed out that, v ia perform ative analysis one can reach for a form al expression of tire om ni­ scient narra to r. A t the sam e lim e applying the conceptual essence of linguistic perform ance it appears that language is essentially indépendant of its com­ m unicative function which fu rth e r on leads K uroda to reject the notion of the om niscient narra to r, that is, the notion th a t a narrative is neccessariiy a discourse by a narra to r. Thus the conclusion has been reached that som e sentences of th e novel’s n a rra tiv e can be attribu ted to various narra to rs w hile there can also exist a n o n narra to r (narratorless) passages w hitch m ay have a narra to r. Some points on theory of n arra tion by Anne Banfiield. Biei hasten, and Volosinov have been discussed to illum inate the reporting mode in this specific novel The point is m ade th a t reportive expressive m ode has been used by all the voices in th e novel but one, Darks. D ari’s passages a re presented in the narra to rless mode. M oreover Faulkner uses series of narrato rs with lim ited omniscience w hile not dispensing wil.h the n a rra to r altogether. S tylistically, linguistically and applying gram m atical an a­ lysis, this artic le tries to exp lain F au lkner’s unique way of rendering (his ra th e r d ifficult problem of reporting in the stream -of-consciousness technique.
