Stern–Volmer constant is used as a criterion for a diffusion controlled encounter rate and studied in the time domain around 100 ns and in the distance domain around 30 nm in highly diluted polystyrene-cyclohexane solutions at θ-temperature. By choice of the θ-situation the thermodynamic influence on the encounter rate is small and the Stokes–Einstein hydrodynamics prevails within the investigated time and distance domain. The internal viscosity at the overlap concentration depends on molecular weight like the segmental density of the polymer does in this homogeneous situation. In highly diluted situation the molecular weight effect levels off if the center of mass distance gets larger than twice the coil diameter. This is illustrated by a cell model combined with a cell specific obstacle model.
