The influence of the supporting surface on the resonantfrequency of pendant droplets has been examined experimentally. Ithas been shown that for spherical pendant droplets the correctionterm due to the boundary conditions at the supporting surfacedepends on the geometry and material of the supporting element,but also on the liquid of the droplet, which makes calibrationimpossible. In contrast, for hemispherical pendant droplets theinfluence of the boundary conditions can be kept constant and canbe eliminated after calibration. A method for measuring thesurface tension in real time from the resonant frequency ofa hemispherical droplet has been proposed and errors have beenevaluated.
