A disordered phase, having space group R[unk]m, has been observed for manganous fluosilicate hexahydrate above 330 K. The transition involves rotation of columns consisting of alternating Mn(H 2 O) 6  and SiF 6  octahedra. The process of rotation is found to start well below the transition temperature indicated by differential scanning calorimetry.
