The structure of the Kierkegaard hydroxymonophosphate has been revised. The chain-like structure of this compound is confirmed. The valence-strength based on valence length calculations, allows a new distribution of hydrogen atoms to be proposed. The structure consists of P(O 3 OH) tetrahedra and MoO 5 (H 2 O) octahedra, leading to the formulation MoO 2  · H 2 O · P(O 3 OH) instead of Mo(OH) 3 PO 4 . The cohesion of the structure is effectuated by strong hydrogen bonds between the different chains.
