The crystal and molecular structure of  N -tetradecyl-(2,4-dihydroxy)-butanoic acid amide (C 18 H 37 NO 3 ) has been determined by direct methods. The compound crystallizes in the monoclinic space group  C 2/ c  with  a  = 96.27(3),  b  = 4.8135(12) Å,  c  = 8.701(5) Å 3 ,  β  = 91.84(4)°,  V  = 4030(3) Å 3 ,  Z  = 8,  D  x  = 1.04 Mg · m −3 .
