The crystal structures of the title complexes, [Ni(S 2 CO- n -C 3 H 7 ) 2 ] and [Ni(S 2 CO- i -C 3 H 7 ) 2 ], have been determined at room temperature. The olive-green crystals of [Ni(S 2 CO- n -C 3 H 7 ) 2 ], C 8 H 14 NiO 2 S 4 , are triclinic, space group  P [unk] with unit cell dimensions  a  = 9.484(2) Å,  b  = 9.973(1) Å,  c  = 7.705(2) Å,  α  = 93.64(2)°,  β  = 105.99(2)°,  γ  = 73.09(1)°,  Z  = 2 and  D  x  = 1.631 Mg · m −3 . The olive-green crystals of [Ni(S 2 CO- i -C 3 H 7 ) 2 ], C 8 H 14 NiO 2 S 4 , are monoclinic, space group  P 2 1 / c  with unit cell dimensions  a  = 8.872(3) Å,  b  = 6.085(4) Å,  c  = 13.201(4) Å,  β  = 94.702(3)°,  Z  = 2 and  D  x  = 1.539 Mg m −3 . The structures were solved by direct methods and refined by a full-matrix least-squares procedure to final  R  = 0.034 using 2109 reflections for [Ni(S 2 CO- n -C 3 H 7 ) 2 ] and  R  = 0.044 using 753 reflections for [Ni(S 2 CO- i -C 3 H 7 ) 2 ]. In both structures the nickel atom exists in a square planar geometry defined by four sulfur atoms. The Ni–S distances in these, and previously determined analogues, have been correlated with the donor strength of the  − S 2 COR ligands.
