The title complex [(C 2 H 4 NO 2 ) 2 CuBr 2 (C 2 H 5 NO 2 ) 2 Li 2  · 2H 2 O] crystallizes in a monoclinic unit cell of dimensions  a  = 9.011(1),  b  = 5.061(1),  c  = 20.659(3) Å,  β  = 91.54(5)°, and space group  P 2 1 / n ,  Z  = 2. The density is  d  calc  = 1.99 g cm −3 ,  d  exp  = 2.10 g cm −3 . The intensity data were collected using a CAD-4 diffractometer with Cu Kα  radiation. The crystal structure of this complex has been solved by Patterson syntheses and difference Fourier calculations and refined to an  R -value of 0.041 using 1425 reflections. Copper is coordinated to two carboxyl oxygens, two amino nitrogens and two bromines all of which form a distorted octahedron. The lithium ion is coordinated to two carboxyl oxygens. Glycine molecules exist both as zwitterions (NH 3  + CH 2 COO − ) and anions (NH 2 CH 2 COO − ) in this structure.
