The elastic constants and their temperature derivatives of betaine hydrogen oxalate hydrate have been determined from ultrasonic resonances of thick plates and the temperature-induced shift of resonance frequencies, respectively. The crystals possess a strong anisotropy in respect to thermal expansion and elasticity. There is no hint of a phase transition as in many other salt-like compounds of betaine.
