The crystal structures of Cr 3 (C,N) 2  and Cr 3 (B,C) 2  were refined from neutron powder diffraction data using the Rietveld profile analysis method. In both cases nonmetal ordering was established (space group  Cmcm ;  Z  = 4, Re 3 B-type structure); the smaller nonmetal atoms prefer occupation of the octahedral interstices of the metal host lattice. Whereas occupation of the octahedral voids was complete for Cr 3 C (C 0.52 N 0.48 ), a small vacancy formation was observed for Cr 3 (B 0.44 C 0.56 )C 0.85 . The obtained reliability values for the refinement were  R  = 0.072 for Cr 3 (B,C) 2  and  R  = 0.057 for Cr 3 (C,N) 2 . The structural chemistry of filled Re 3 B-type compounds is discussed.
