The x-ray diffraction pattern of “potassium-Bellucci-Salt”, K 4 [Ni 2 (CN) 6 ], show twinning effects and one-dimensional disorder in form of diffuse streaks parallel  c *. Both effects can be deduced from the polytypic Charakter of the compound. The structure is built up by periodic layer units with  a ,  b ,  c /4. Each layer possesses the pseudosymmetry  pba ( a ), but the symmetry of an ordered twin region is  P [unk]. There exists a strong interaction between any polytypic structure and its hypothetical „Ausgangs” or basic structure in form of relations between sub- and supergroups. From the basic structure the polytypic structure may be derived by simple translation of adjacent layers. In consequence the symmetry of the basic structure is reduced. In reverse sense it is possible to transform each polytypic structure to an Ausgangs or basic structure with higher symmetry.
