The crystal structure of hydrazinium tris(hydrazincarboxylato-N′,O)niccolate(II) monohydrate, (N 2 H 5 )[Ni(N′H 2 –NH–COO) 3 ] · H 2 O, has been determined and refined by least-squares method. The crystals are monoclinic, space group  Cc . The structure consists of chelate anions [unk] of cations N 2 H 5  +  and of water molecules. The chelating molecule is represented by bold curves. The complex is of octahedral, high-spin type, and, on the whole, has nearly trigonal symmetry. The distances from the metal are Ni–O av  = 2.055 ± 0.013 Å and Ni–N av  = 2.112 ± 0.014 Å. The three chelate rings are not planar, but a portion of the molecule, –N–COO, lies in one plane. The three rings are practically equal with distances N–N av  = 1.427 ± 0.019 Å, N–C av  = 1.385 ± 0.023 Å, C–O av  = 1.289 ± 0.016 and 1.209 ± 0.018 Å. The distance between nitrogen atoms of hydrazinium cation is N–N = 1.435 ± 0.023 Å.
