The hydrogen-bonding scheme proposed by M anohar  and R amaseshan  for echitamine iodide, which included postulations of C – H … O and O – H … C interactions, has been re-examined. It is found that the crystal structure can be discussed in terms of N – H … I −  and O – H … I −  interactions, in conformity with the well-established principles governing hydrogen-bond formation, and that there is no necessity to invoke C – H … O or O – H … C hydrogen bonds.
