p , p ′-dichloro-diphenylamine is monoclinic with the space group  C  2 h   5 – P 2 1 / a  and with lattice constants  a  = 14.36 ± 0.05,  b  = 12.63 ± 0.08,  c  = 6.05 ± 0.05 Å,  β  = 96.0° ± 0.5° (from Laue, rotation and Weissenberg photographs). The density at 20° is 1.434 ± 0.001 g/cm 3 . The unit cell contains four molecules. The parameters of the chlorine, nitrogen and carbon atoms were determined from two-dimensional Patterson and Fourier syntheses and refined. For the intermolecular and intramolecular atomic distances the usual values or slight deviations therefrom were found; but for the valences angle of the N atom a much greater value than normal was found (133.6°).
