F. L. Čelakovský was one of the major poets of early Czech National Revival ( národní obrození ). He became famous for his books of adaptions of Russian and Czech folk poetry, „Ohlas písní ruských“ (1829; Echoes of Russian Songs) and „Ohlas písní èeských“ (1839; Echoes of Czech Songs). Less known are his „Selanky“ (Idylls), a group of poems that were written and partially published in the 1820s. As will be shown the texts as a whole represent the transition from traditional idyllic genre (following Geßner) to the modernized type of a national idyll which, on its part, was one of the main impulses for the general ,idyllization‘ of Czech culture in the further development of  obrození .
