The retention value  R , defined as the percentage of activity retained in the organic combination after irradiation of an organic halide has been determined for bromobenzene, o, m and p bromonitro benzene, o, m and p bromoaniline and its sulphate. The values of  R  for bromobenzene show wide Variation depending on the irradiation Container etc. apart from pretreatment for purification. The isomers of derivatives of bromobenzene show that there are no marked differences in the values of  R  but minor differences have been observed which may be due to orienting effect of the substituents in the benzene nucleus. The effect of dilution on  R   of bromobenzene using benzene and hexane as solvents has been studied and it is shown that the retention value goes down in benzene but in hexane it remains constant. The scavenging effects by addition of bromine and allyl bromide on bromobenzene have shown that  R   goes down to  ~  30 percent in the former and  ~  87 percent in the latter case.
