C12H14N4NiO10, orthorhombic, Pbca (no. 61), a = 6.7627(2) Å, b = 13.8370(4) Å, c = 16.5247(5) Å, V = 1546.3 Å, Z = 4, Rgt(F) = 0.026, wRref(F) = 0.076, T = 296 K. Source of material A heavy-walled pyrex tube containing a mixture of Ni(NO3)2.· 6H2O (0.0285 g, 0.1 mmol), 2-methyl-1H-imidazole-4,5dicarboxylic acid (0.034 g, 0.2 mmol), 0.65 mol/L NaOH solution (0.3 ml) and H2O (2 mL) was frozen in liquid N2, sealed under vacuum and placed inside an oven at 160 °C. The green single crystals of the title compound suitable for X-ray analysis were then obtained after heating of 3 d. Chemical analysis — found: C, 33.47 %; H, 3.43 %; N, 12.71 %; calculated for C12H14NiN4O10: C, 33.29 %, H, 3.23 %, N, 12.93 %. Experimental details All the H atoms were placed at geometrically idealized positions with d(O—H) = 0.82 0.834 Å, d(N—H) = 0.86 Å, d(C—Hmethyl) = 0.96 Å, The Uiso are constraint to Uiso(H) = 1.2 Ueq(N) and 1.5 Ueq(C,O). Discussion Imidazole carboxylic acids have attracted much attention because of their structural diversity and their potential applications as functional materials [1,2]. Recently our group reported two transition metal (cadmium and cobalt) complex with the 2-methyl1H-imidazole-4,5-dicarboxylic acid (H3MIA) ligand. Although cadmium and cobalt complex have the same formula, they crystallize in two different crystal systems, and there are many differences in their structures [3,4]. And we have been engaged to synthesize new metal complex with H3MIA ligand, not long ago we obtained nickel complex with H3MIA ligand via hydrothermal reaction, [Ni(H2MIA)2(H2O)2]. X-ray single crystal diffraction studies reveal that the nickel complex and cobalt complex are isostructural. In the title crystal structure, the Ni atom lying on a crystallographic inversion center is six-coordinated by two N,O-bidentate 2-methyl-1H-imidazole-4,5-dicarboxylic acid mono-anionic ligands and two water molecules. As in the Co complex, two coordinated water molecules occupy the apical sites, and the equatorial plane contains two bidentate 2-methyl-1H-imidazole-4,5dicarboxylic acid mono-anionic ligands. Rich O−H···O, N−H···O and C−H···O hydrogen bonds link the mononuclear nickel complex into a 3D supramolecular structure. The mean distances Ni—O and Ni—N of 2.0794 Å and 2.0528 Å, respectively, are smaller than that of Co—O (2.1179 Å) and Co—N (2.1057 Å). Z. Kristallogr.
