C8H13NO, monoclinic, C12/c1 (no. 15), a = 10.380(3) Å, b = 7.137(2) Å, c = 20.973(6) Å, 1 = 103.887(4)°, V = 1508.2 Å, Z = 8, Rgt(F) = 0.058, wRref(F) = 0.146, T = 193 K. Source of material The title compound was purchased fromAldrich and the crystals were grown by a slow sublimation under reduced pressure to give crystals suitable for X-ray diffraction. Discussion We have been studying the effects of hydrogen bonding on the crystallization properties of various organic compounds [1,2]. Hydrogen bonding can dictate the crystallization properties as well as solvation properties. Crystallization in various solvents has resulted in the lack of formation of single crystals. Crystallization continues in an effort to use hydrogen bond donor solvents in an effort to generate single crystals. In the crystal structure, tropinone exhibits very normal bond lengths and angles without hydrogen bonding. The data is very similar to related compounds [3,4].Although two of the three related compounds previously studied showed that there was a solvate in the structure, the authors did not define or model this solvent.We were originally hoping to generate crystals via a hydrogen bonding solvent such as methanol or ethanol. These attempts have so far failed to give sufficient single crystals. Z. Kristallogr.
